The Bangalore-Mysore Expressway(Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway) is an important connectivity project in Karnataka, India, that aims to improve the accessibility to the areas in and around the state, including Srirangapatna, Coorg, Ooty and Kerala.
The project was initiated in 2014 and was expected to be completed by June 2022. The expressway was divided into two phases— one started in May 2019, and the other started in December 2019. But as the world got hit by COVID, the project got delayed and was estimated to be completed in October 2022.
Finally, the Bengaluru Mysuru expressway inauguration took place on Mar 12, 2023, by the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi.

The Bangalore Mysore Expressway distance covers a total of 117 km of the route connecting the two cities.
The Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway has a total of 6-10 lanes and includes a greenfield bypass. In addition to a 22 km bypass between Ramanagaram and Channapatana, there will be an 8 km bypass for Mandya, a 10 km bypass for Srirangapatna, and a 4 km of bypass for Maddur. Furthermore, Bidadi will also have a 7km bypass along the expressway.
The construction of these bypasses along the Bangalore to Mysore Expressway route will save travel time by 1.5 hours.
The speed limit set on the Bangalore to Mysore expressway is 100 mph, but at certain stretches, the limit is fixed at 80 mph.
The price of tolls is usually based on the number of bridges, lanes, and underpasses.
With 44 minor bridges, 4 rail bridges, and 9 major bridges, the Bangalore Mysore Expressway toll rates range from Rs 200 to Rs 250 - differing for vehicles and automobiles.
The Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway project was developed in two phases. Apart from 4 Railway Overbridges, the expressway has 4 rail bridges, 9 important bridges, 40 minor bridges and 89 underpasses and overpasses.
The first phase connects Bangalore to Panchamukhi Ganapathi Temple on the NICE road to Nidaghatta. This initial phase's estimated cost is Rs 3900 crore, out of which Rs 1600 crore was designated for land acquisition. The length of this road is approximately 56.2 km.
The second phase of the Bangalore to Mysore expressway ran from Nidaghatta to Mysore with a road length of 61.1km. The total cost estimated for phase two was approximately Rs 3600 crore, which included Rs 1200 crore of land acquisition.
