Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) is an Indian scheme that aims to provide healthcare facilities to the economically weaker section. Initially known as the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, it is the world's largest health assurance scheme providing poor and vulnerable families with annual health coverage of INR 5 lakhs.
Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri - Jan Arogya Yojana, launched in 2018, has verified 21.9 crore beneficiaries as of 4th January 2023 and accounts for several success stories.
Ayushman Bharat Yojana, now popularly known as PMJAY, aims to make secondary and tertiary health care cashless for the underprivileged sections of society.
The expenses covered under this AB-PMJAY are:
Three days of pre-hospitalization
15 days of post-hospitalization
1400 procedures that consist of all OT expenses
Medical examination, treatment, and consultation
Medical consumables
Intensive and non-intensive care services
Any complications that arise during treatment
Laboratory and diagnostic investigations
Medical implantation services (where necessary)
Accommodation benefits
Food services
Notably, the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana(PMJAY) scheme has been allocated INR 7200 crores in the budget 2023-24 - a 12% increase from last year’s budget. Not only this, as per Economic Survey 2023, 4.3 crore hospital admissions amounting to approximately INR 50,409 crore have been authorized under AB-PMJAY.
All the beneficiaries are entitled to a PMJAY golden card when they apply for this scheme. This e-card is called an Ayushman Card or ABHA card. The beneficiaries can use this e-card to avail of services at any of the private or public empaneled hospitals.

All minor and major diseases are covered
Nursing charges and admission fees

You are only eligible to apply for the Ayushman card online if:
You are an Indian citizen
Your family’s collective income is less than INR 2.5 lakhs
Your family is included in the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana list
The eligibility for an Ayushman Bharat Card also depends on the area in which you reside:
Rural areas
Urban areas
A family is eligible under the PMJAY scheme in rural areas if:
They do not have male members aged between 16 to 59
They do not have adults between 16 to 59 years of age
They have a disabled member
They belong to Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste category
Their main source of income is manual labor
They live in a temporary house with a single room without well-constructed walls
They are manual scavengers
They do not have any household
They are legally released contract labor
They belong to primitive tribal groups
They are living on alms or facing extreme poverty
The people eligible for PMJAY in urban areas are:
Ragpickers
Beggars
Individuals that offer services on pavements
Street vendors, hawkers, and cobblers
Domestic workers
Construction workers, welders, and laborers
Painters and plumbers
Security guards
Sweepers and sanitation workers
Individuals that provide transport services like conductors, drivers, or rickshaw pullers
Individuals that offer home-based artisans like tailors or handicraft workers
Delivery boys, shop assistants, and peons in small establishments
Washer-men
The documents required for the generation of the PMJAY card are as follows:

You can apply for an Ayushman card online using the following steps:
Step 1: Visit https://www.pmjay.gov.in/
Step 2: Click on "Am I eligible?"
Step 3: Enter your Aadhar number and OTP you got on your registered number. You will see an online page link if you are eligible.
Step 4: Fill out your personal information and family details
Step 5: Submit your form, and you can see your Ayushman card number on the dashboard
Once you receive your Ayushman Bharat card, your family member’s applications will be approved soon too.

This dashboard will allow you to check your Ayushman card application status by entering your Aadhar number or mobile number.
Once your application is approved, use the following steps to download your Ayushman card:
Step 1: Go to the official PM Jay website.
Step 2: Enter your mobile number or Aadhar number to log in
Step 3: Check out your ABHA card number
Step 4: Complete the download process of the Ayushman card
