The deadline for the Permanent Account Number (PAN) card to the Aadhar card link has been extended to Jun 30, 2023.
It is mandatory for all PAN-holders who do not fall under the exempt category, to link their permanent account numbers (PAN) with Aadhaar before June 30, 2023. Any PAN that is not linked will become inoperative from July 1, 2023, according to an advisory issued by the Income Tax Department.
The previous deadline to link PAN with Aadhaar was March 31, 2023, but the government extended it to June 30.
The PAN card to Aadhaar card link is a simple and easy online process if you follow it step-by-step. Below you will find the process to make a PAN card linked to an Aadhaar card.
STEP 1: Payment of the applicable fee via:
I. e-Pay Tax functionality is made available on several bank accounts such as Axis Bank, Bank of India, Canara Bank, Federal Bank, ICICI Bank, Indian Bank, Central Bank of India, Indian Overseas Bank, Karur Vysya Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, and Kotak Mahindra.
i. So, you will have to navigate to the e-Pay Tax page on the Income Tax e-Filing portal.
ii. Mention your PAN number, confirm it and enter your mobile number to receive an OTP.
iii. You will be redirected to a different page showing payment options once the OTP is verified.
iv. Select "Proceed" on the Income Tax Tile.
v. Select the AY 2023-2024 and the Payment Type, then click "Continue."
vi. Pay the amount of Rs 1000 under "Others" in tax break-up.
OR
II. PAN aadhaar link NSDL (now Protean) under Major Head (0021) and Minor Head (500) for an AY 2023-2024 if you don't have the above-mentioned bank accounts.
i. Visit the e-Payment for TIN to pay the late fee of Rs 500 or Rs 1000.
ii. Now go to the non-TDS/TCS option and choose "Proceed" under Challan No./ITNS 280.
iii. Look for Challan with a major (0021) and minor head (500).
iv. Mention the details and make the payment via a single challan.
STEP 2: On the e-filing website, submit the Aadhaar linking request after 4-5 days of making the payment on the NSDL portal.
i. Visit the e-filing portal, log in under "Link Aadhaar to PAN," then click on "Link Aadhaar."
ii. Mention your PAN and Aadhaar number and choose "Validate."
iii. If the payment of Challan was made on the NSDL website, then the payment details will be verified by e-filing your PAN and Aadhaar card. When your payment has been validated, you will see a pop-up stating, "Your payment details have been verified." Once you see this, click "Continue" to submit your link aadhaar request.
iv. Now, you will have to mention the required details. Once done, click on "link aadhaar".
v. Enter the OTP that you will receive.
vi. The PAN card to Aadhaar card link request has been completed successfully. You can now check the Aadhaar card PAN card link status.
Disclaimer: As of now, there is no validity for linking Aadhaar to post-fee payment on the NSDL (now Protean) website.

Step 1: Type a message in UIDPAN format: UIDPAN (SPACE) 12-digit Aadhaar Card Number (SPACE) 10-digit PAN Card Number.
Step 2: Now send that SMS to 567678 or 56161.
Step 3: You will receive a confirmation on the successful completion of the PAN card to the Aadhaar card link.
Follow the below-mentioned steps to check the Aadhaar card PAN card link status:
Step 1: Go to the e-Filing Income Tax Department website.
Step 2: Choose "Link Aadhaar Status," available under the "Quick Links" option.
Step 3: Mention your PAN.
Step 4: Now mention your Aadhaar Number.
Step 5: Click on "View Link Aadhaar Status," and the status will appear in your window.
The PAN card to Aadhaar card link has been made mandatory for citizens of India and is to be completed by June 30, 2023. Failing to do so will lead to the deactivation of the PAN card and the citizens will not be able to file Income Tax Returns.
Step 1: Visit the e-filing portal of the NSDL.
Step 2: From the drop-down menu, choose "Changes or Corrections in Existing PAN Card/Reprint of PAN Card" (if there are no changes to the existing PAN data).
Step 3: Select an individual category to include your information.
Step 4: Pay and complete the online form after Aadhaar e-KYC.
Step 5: The updated PAN will be sent to your registered address.
Step 6: Once received, you can link your PAN with your Aadhaar.
Step 1: Visit the uidai of Aadhaar Enrolment Centre.
Step 2: Get a self-attested copy of your proof of identity.
Step 3: Fill out the Aadhaar Correction Form.
Step 4: Submit the document. Then you will receive an acknowledgement slip containing your update request number.
Step 5: The URN can be used to check the status of your update request. Once done, your name will be corrected. You can now link your PAN card to your Aadhaar card.
While Aadhaar is an essential proof of identity in India, if an individual wishes to proceed with any real estate property transactions in the country, they must provide their PAN (Permanent Account Number) Card details. Hence, PAN Card is also one of the most important documents required for the validation of the buying or selling of a land/house as well as during property registrations.
Therefore, individuals who do not fall into the exempt category must proceed with PAN-Aadhaar link, or they might face hassles in any real estate -related procedures. They will also be unable to file income tax returns and might face other tax-related issues.
