Bhopal, the capital city of Madhya Pradesh in central India, is renowned for its rich cultural heritage, scenic beauty, and serene lakes. As the city continues to grow, addressing the transportation needs of its residents becomes crucial. To cater to the increasing demands for efficient public transportation, the Bhopal Metro came into existence with the motto to transform how people travel within the city.
As per the latest reports, the Madhya Pradesh Rail Corporation will place a Bhopal metro mock up at the Smart Park to get feedback and suggestions from citizens, after which Alstom (the manufacturing company) will implement it. However, the date related to the Bhopal metro mockup has not yet been released.
The state's Chief Minister laid the foundation of the Bhopal metro project. A tender for the construction of 13 Bhopal metro stations has been released by MPRCL. Furthermore, the tendering process will begin on July 13 and run until July 20, 2023. On July 21, 2023, technical bids for the same will be opened. Bhopal Metro, also known as "Bhoj Metro," is currently under construction. The Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Co. Ltd. oversees the metro work. The 105 km metro plan is prepared by Rohit Associates Cities & Rails Pvt. Ltd. The Bhopal Metro project is financed by the European Investment Bank.
It was expected that the metro's priority corridor was supposed to be completed by August 2023, but due to a delay in work, the deadline for the metro’s Priority Corridor got shifted to March 2024. Currently, two lines and 28 stations are underway under Phase 1.

As of now, no section of the Bhopal metro is operational, but construction work is underway for a 6.22km line.
Furthermore, there are big plans for the metro's expansion in the future, with a suggested length of 77.13 km. The project's anticipated cost is Rs. 6941.40 crore to support these efforts.
It is expected that once the Bhopal metro gets operational, there will be around 2.20 lakh daily commuters.

Phase 1 of the Bhoj Metro is expected to be completed by 2027. Under Phase 1, Line 2 (Purple Line) and Line 5 (Red Line) are underway. Nevertheless, let's take a closer look at the stations covered by these lines.
