The foundation stone of the Smart City Dehradun project was laid by the former Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat, on June 25, 2019.

Smart City Dehradun: Mission
Do you know that Dehradun is the only city from Uttarakhand to be a part of the government-launched Smart Cities Mission?
Yes, it is one of the smart cities in India that is being developed in a comprehensive manner to apply smart solutions to every aspect of life.
The Dehradun smartcity project focuses on the 360-degree development of this hill station. The four pillars of comprehensive development, namely institutional, physical, social, and economic infrastructure, form the cornerstone of the Smart City Dehradun project.
It focuses on harnessing the power of technology to transform existing areas and develop new ones.
10 out of 60 wards are covered under the Dehradun smartcity project with an aim of technology-led development to improve the quality of life for every segment of the population.

Vision Elements of The Smart City Dehradun Project
To improve the quality of life incrementally in a sustainable way, the Dehradun smart city project has the following vision elements:

Development Projects Under The Smart City Dehradun
To achieve the above-stated vision elements, the following development projects are being undertaken under the dehradun’s smart city project:
1. Smart Toilets: Under this project, a total of 7 new toilets will be constructed for men, women, and the handicapped. Technology-based solutions are deployed for cleaning.
2. Smart Multi-Utility Duct: To avoid the frequent digging of roads for repair work of telephone cables, a multi-utility duct will be constructed on both sides of the road. Smart Multi Utility Duct will house electricity cables too.
3. Smart School: Under the Dehradun Smart City Project, schools will have virtual classes, CCTV surveillance, digital content, a school management system, a library management system, and much more.
4. Solar Energy Solution and Rain Water Harvesting in Government Buildings: To achieve the goal of a "green city" by 2030, 1100 kW of total connected load is assigned to the green buildings. A renewable source of energy will be used to generate 5% of the total connected load.
Moreover, rainwater harvesting systems will be deployed in green buildings.
5. Sewage Line Project: As the sewer lines have outlived their useful life, they get choked, creating problems for people in the rainy season. As a result, reorganisation or replacement of the sewerage system will be done under the Dehradun Smart City Project.
6. Tree Plantation: To achieve the goal of a clean and healthy city, tree plantations are proposed under the Smart City Dehradun mission.
7. Smart Water Supply SCADA System: A Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system has been proposed under the Smart City Dehradun project. Under this system, there will be monitoring of water production and distribution.
8. Smart Bicycle Share: To achieve the Dehradun smart city mission and build a congestion-free city, a public bicycle sharing system has been proposed.
9. Electric Buses: Under the Smart City Dehradun Project, 30 electric buses in the city are proposed.

Implementing Agency For Dehradun Smart City Project
To implement the smart city Dehradun project, Dehradun Smart City Limited (DSCL), a special purpose vehicle (SPV), has been incorporated under the Indian Companies Act, 2013.
It receives funds from the Government of India and the Government of Uttarakhand for the sustainable development of Dehradun as a smart city. At present, 2011-batch IAS officer Ashish Kumar Srivastava is the CEO and Director of the Dehradun Smart City Limited (DSCL).

To avail of the services on the Dehradun smart city portal, citizens need to first register themselves on the portal. For the Dehradun smart city portal registration, follow the below steps:
Step 1: Visit Smart City Dehradun portal: https://smartcitydehradun.uk.gov.in/dscl/CitizenHome.html and Click "Login". Choose "Citizen Login" from the drop-down menu.
Step 2: The Citizen Login page will open.
Step 3: Click on the "Citizen Register" option at the bottom of the citizen login page.

For a successful Dehradun smart city portal registration, make sure you provide all the information, especially in the fields marked with an asterisk (*).
Current Status: Smart City Dehradun Project
June 2023 is the deadline for Dehradun Smart City Mission projects. However, some projects, like the smart roads project and green building development, are facing delays.
Overseeing these delays, the Ministry of Union Housing and Urban Affairs has extended the deadline for the Smartcity Dehradun Mission from June 2023 to June 2024.
